Album

Moondog 2 is the sixth album by American composer Moondog AKA Louis Thomas Hardin. This album was the followup to the 1969 album Moondog. Produced with James William Guercio, it featured Moondog's daughter June Hardin as a vocalist. Unlike his previous instrumental album, which was largely performed by an orchestra, Moondog 2 contains vocal compositions in canons, rounds, and madrigals. In the liner notes to the album, Hardin states he first began writing rounds in the late winter or early spring of. Moondog is the fifth album by American composer Moondog. Moondog had released no music for twelve years since his 1957 album The Story of Moondog. Finally, in 1969, producer James William Guercio invited him to record an album for Columbia Records. The resulting album compiled various music which Moondog had been working on since the 1950s. This included two minisyms Moondog's term for short symphonic-styled works performed by small orchestras two canons a chaconne in memory of Charlie Parker. The first LP, Moondog, features Moondog jamming with some of the top-flight studio musicians in New York on his own charts in an ambitiously scored bag reminiscent of a forgotten Epic LP from the '50s, Moondog and His Friends - difficult to reissue, like its successors, it's really, really short. To have a package like Moondog - Moondog 2 available is almost too good to be true, as it both delivers the basic goods on Hardin and opens the door to a broader appreciation of the truly special circumstance that was Moondog. Championed by an assortment of stars including Frank Zappa, Igor Stravinsky, Charlie Parker, Arturo Toscanini, Benny Goodman, Philip Glass, Lester Young and Woody Herman, he chose to work as a street busker for most of his life, and his five decades as a recording artist were mainly spent on tiny independent labels.
