Исполнитель: Noah Howard Quartet. 2005 jazz. Since recording a couple of splendid recordings for ESP in the 1960s, alto saxophonist Noah Howard drifted into relative oblivion although he recorded a couple of good, but hard-to-find, LPs in the mid-1970s for FMP. His music is characterized by a certain earthiness that allows him to successfully combine blues, free, and hard bop elements in an attractive blend. The same cannot be said for his vocals, of which the less said the better. In Concert by Noah Howard Quartet, released 09 November 1997 1. The Blessing 2. Schizophrenic Blues 3. Afro Blue 4. Noah Howard born April 6, 1943 is an American free jazz alto saxophonist. Born in New Orleans, Howard played music since childhood in his church, first learning trumpet and later switching to alto sax. He recorded two sessions as a leader in 1966 for ESP Records, but found little critical acclaim in America, and moved to Europe soon after. In 1969 he appeared on Frank Wright's album One For John, and as leader recorded The Black Arc with Arthur Doyle. Alto saxophonist Noah Howard was a key player in the free jazz movement of the 1960s. He moved into the realm of that decade-a time when the atmosphere was rife with saxophonists primed to the calling. Born in New Orleans, Howard characterized his approach with a distinctive sensibility for gospel music that unraveled enticingly in his explorations. His improvisations revolved on the turnstiles of a ripe imagination, and it was no surprise, then, that his first record as a leader, Noah Howard Quartet 1965 was for the avant-garde ESP Disk label.
