He is best known for being 'Magic' Cristian, the touring keyboardist and background singer for the rock band Cheap Trick. After a number of years in the thriving local club scene they disbanded, with Cristian and two other band mates forming the band Fortress. Record labels Chrysalis and MCA showed interest in the band. The Prisoner is the seventh Herbie Hancock album, his final on the Blue Note label, released and recorded in 1969. His next record would be on Warner Bros. It is dedicated to the memory of Martin Luther King. Hancock suggested in 1969 that he had been able to get closer to his real self with this album than on any other previous. Hancock praised flute player Hubert Laws on the album, suggesting that Laws was one of the finest flute players in classical or jazz music. Unknown by many, No Prisoner is a terrific album for Classic 80s American AOR fans who still desire the rocking side of the genre. Magic Cristian indeed does some magic here, helped by the proper production sound to enhance these already pretty awesome melodic songs. HIGHLY Recommended.
