Sibelius originally dedicated the concerto to the noted violinist Willy Burmester, who promised to play the concerto in Berlin. It has often been said that Heifitz owned Sibelius' Violin Concerto. The power of his virtuosity and precision cannot be denied. Fritz Reiner and the CSO provide the perfect accompaniment for the great violinist on one of Finnish composer Sibelius' most beloved works. The glory of Heifitz is breathtaking in this masterful recording by the team of Layton and Mohr from 1959. Musicians: Fritz Reiner wJascha Heifitz conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
