Teitur Lassen is an intriguing writer and a moving singer whose performances on The Singer wreak a kind of understated but devastating passion comparable to Anthony & The Johnsons. Despite having recorded several albums since 2003 . A Faroe Islander whose distinctive, idiosyncratic tone compares to fellow Northern Lights artists such as Stina Nordenstam, Bjork and Sigur Ros. I always had the voice and now I am a singer, Teitur declares on The Singer's title track, a song that is either uncomfortably self-referential or half-hearted in its humor. As with much of Teitur's material, the arrangement is sparse and elegantly atmospheric, with vibraphones and strings underscoring the voice that Teitur so deliberately sings about. The quiet instrumentation is appealing, but the beauty of Teitur's music doesn't quite hold up when it's explicitly referenced. Teitur: The Singer. 5, 5 stars 5 out of 5 stars. Teitur Lassen's fourth album is a delicate chrysalis that conceals darker matter. At first it sounds like a fragile singer-songwriter record, but as the artful arrangements reveal themselves, textured with sparse double bass, marimba and mariachi brass, they shore up his heavyweight lyrics. Lust and unattainable love are the subjects, but black-hearted visions colour his characters. Released 2008. The Singer Tracklist. The Singer Lyrics. The Girl I Don't Know Lyrics. The Singer, 2008.
