Taking their act on the road, they performed at many New England colleges, and at Westover Air Force Base where they took the name Victory-Eights for the air force men sent from Westover to England during World War II. This album is a collection of recordings by past Victory-Eights as well as the 1992-1993 V-8's to commemorate 50 years of great a cappella music. On This Album. The V-8's originally sang for their own enjoyment, but once the Mount Holyoke campus heard their first public performance in the Junior Show of '42 the group was in demand, providing unique entertainment for their own and nearby college communities. The V-8's also brought their music to Westover Air Force Base, which inspired a V-8 tion as the fifth V-8 album. The number of members has fluctuated over the years, scheduled concerts now include all corners of New England and beyond, and concert dress is no longer formal evening w. To the general Mount Holyoke community, the V-8's calls to mind that gang of girls who disappear periodically into the back room at the C. to drink free coffee and talk and sing. An occasional visitor to rehearsal, discovering that all three processes go on simultaneously, shrugs his shoulders and crosses his fingers for a bearable performance. But somehow this group, already established for over a decade, seems ready to sustain itself for several more.
