Musical style diverged during the 20th century as it never had previously. Consequently, this century was without a dominant style. Modernism, impressionism, and post-romanticism can all be traced to the decades before the turn of the century, but can be included because they evolved beyond the musical boundaries of the 19th-century styles that were part of the earlier common practice period. Do you have the artwork for this album Add artwork. Do you know any background info about this album Start the wiki. 66 20th Century Masterpieces. Water Music Suite No. 2 for orchestra in D major, HWV 349. George Frederick Handel. Trumpet Tune Cibell for harpsichord in C major, ZT 678. Henry Purcell. Lohengrin, opera, WWV 75. Prelude to Act 3. Richard Wagner. The set covers 96 years of masterpieces, from Rachmaninoffs Second Piano Concerto of 1901 to Thomas Adès Asyla of 1997, and presents them in chronological order as listed above. It is a handy and reasonably comprehensive overview of 20th-century music: useful as a reference, although notes are too scanty for serious study, and great fun to dip into. A plus is that the works are presented in their entirety, not excerpted-with the exception of the Abschied movement from Mahlers Das Lied von der Erde another classic performance from Christa Ludwig and Otto Klemperer. Are all these works truly 20th-century masterpieces . ALBUM - The Top 100 Masterpieces of Classical Music COMPOSER - Varioussee link below ENSEMBLEARTIST - Varioussee link below
